What happens to the rib cage when you exhale
1 answer
When you exhale, the muscles between the ribs contract, pulling the ribs downward and inward. This decreases the space inside the chest cavity, causing the rib cage to move closer together and downward. As a result, the volume of the thoracic cavity decreases, causing the pressure inside the lungs to increase. This forces the air out of the lungs as you exhale.
