During the Mai Lai Massacre on March 16, 1968, US Army soldiers from Charlie Company, under the command of Lieutenant William Calley Jr., killed between 347 and 504 unarmed South Vietnamese civilians, including men, women, children, and elderly people, in the village of Mai Lai.
