Common table salt is a combination of sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl). How do the properties of the three compare?

Salt is made up of Sodium (Na) and Chlorine (Cl). Salt is completely harmless when digested, as you well know. However, Sodium and Chlorine are highly poisonous and will kill you if ingested. That would be one difference.
