What does "on the landward side" mean?

A) away from the volcano
B) toward the volcano
C) on the far side of the bay
D) on the sea floor

my answer: d) on the sea floor.

Am I correct? Thanks for all and any help in advance.

I think it's b -- but it's not clear what's "away from the volcano." More land? The sea? What?
I know it is either a or b. I got the other ones wrong.
Were you given a picture or drawing to refer to? This makes little sense without knowing what is there.
