East Texas has been significantly influenced by Southern culture, particularly due to its historical ties to the Deep South. This region has strong connections to the traditions of the Southeastern United States, including aspects of African American culture, such as gospel music, Southern cuisine (like soul food), and the prevalence of Baptist churches.
West Texas, on the other hand, has been influenced more by Southwestern and Mexican cultures due to its proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border. This includes aspects like ranching traditions, Tex-Mex cuisine, and a stronger Hispanic cultural heritage.
While there are certainly overlaps and shared influences across Texas, the distinct Southern cultural elements found in East Texas are less prominent in the West.
