What creates longshore current?

1)the depth in the surf zone
2)the direction that the majority of boats are moving in
3)which way the rip current is moving
4)the angle at which the swash washes onto the beach

1 answer

Longshore currents are primarily created by 4) the angle at which the swash washes onto the beach. When waves approach the shore at an angle, the water they carry moves up the beach at that same angle (this is known as the swash), and then it flows back down the beach under the influence of gravity. This process creates a net movement of water along the shore, resulting in a longshore current.
