What communication barriers would a police officer and a prison guard may face when communicating with one another or with their clients? What are some possible strategies to overcome these barriers?

Ms. Sue Im really not sure on how to answer this question could you direct me in the right direction. Would it have anything to do with communication problems or sexual harrassement?

They may be of different races -- with one speaking standard English and the other using more of an African-American dialect.

They may have different first languages -- Spanish, English, Arabic, Chinese, etc.

They may be of different genders -- with different ways of speaking to the opposite sex. Hostility toward the opposite sex may cause communication problems.

Hostility is often a problem between different cultures and languages, too.

What would be some possible strategies to overcome these barriers? Would it be if they were a different gender have that same gender communicate with them instead of the opposite sex?

Management needs to be actively involved. Diversity training by professionals is necessary. Also, I believe that after such intervention, management needs to make it very clear that these communication "problems" are not to be tolerated.
