In my opinion, the Clean Water Act (CWA) of 1972 has had the greatest impact on water quality in the United States. The CWA established regulations to control and limit the discharge of pollutants into U.S. waters, including lakes, rivers, and coastal areas. This act has significantly decreased the amount of pollutants being dumped into our waterways and has helped to prevent contamination from agricultural, industrial, and commercial sources. The CWA continues to be a critical piece of legislation in protecting our nation's water quality.
