What causes an object to move, change direction, speed up or slow down? (2) Objects move when forces acting on them are

1 answer

unbalanced. An unbalanced force can be caused by various factors such as the application of a force by an external object, gravitational pull, friction, or air resistance. When an object experiences an unbalanced force, it will accelerate in the direction of that force, causing it to move.

To change direction, an object needs to experience a force that acts in a different direction than its current motion. This force can be provided by external factors like pushing or pulling, or by internal forces such as muscles in living organisms.

To speed up or slow down, an object needs to experience a net force that is greater or smaller than the forces opposing its motion, respectively. For example, pushing a car from behind will increase its speed as it overcomes the friction between the tires and the road. On the other hand, applying brakes to a moving car creates a force opposing its motion, resulting in a decrease in speed.
