Arteries are connected to venules through smaller blood vessels called capillaries. Capillaries are tiny, thin-walled blood vessels that facilitate the exchange of oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients, and waste products between the blood and surrounding tissues. Blood flows from arteries into arterioles, then into capillaries, where the exchange occurs, and from there, it enters venules, which collect the deoxygenated blood and carry it back to the heart.
