What are some issues in Kalamazoo, Michigan that I can do a persuasive speech on. Issues that are 2010 or greater?

One of the biggest controversies in our area was about the Portage Schools superintendent. There was also the proposal for developing a square block downtown Kalamazoo for a sports arena (like we need another one!). The oil spill in the Kalamazoo River generated a lot of distress. What about our former moderate Republican Congressional Representative Fred Upton, who seems to be kissing up to the Tea Partiers?
