Were the French colonized or did they immigrate to the United States.

3 answers

French were among the first settlers North America. They were not prominent in the original 13 colonies (having been defeated by Britain in the French and Indian War), but were dominant in Canada (until defeated by British there also) and the Great Lakes and Mississippi Valley. The Louisiana Purchase, which more than doubled the size of the United States, was originally French. France also played a colonial role in Mexico (briefly) and the Caribbean.

Many French came to Louisiana after being expelled from parts of Canada. Hence the name "Cajuns"
THEY IMMIGRATED TO U.S.
They colonized the Louisiana territory, and French-speaking regions of present Canada. After the U.S. was formed, some came as immigrants.
