Mitosis is like making a copy of a cell, so you get two identical cells that have the same number of chromosomes as the original. Meiosis, on the other hand, is special because it makes sperm and egg cells with half the number of chromosomes, so when they join together, they create a new organism with the right number of chromosomes!
