You might try "Dear Foster-grandmother" or "...grandparent" or something like that.

We are writeing a letter to seniors in a retirement home. these people have no familey and no friends. what would be an apropitate way to adress the letter if it is personal but we don't know them?

Since you're in an advanced language arts class, I urge you to pay more attention to your spelling:

It would be nice if your teacher got the names of the residents to whom you're writing. Then you could address the letters more personally.
