If I were to design the Louvre Pyramid as a prism, I would likely create a rectangular prism with a glass roof to allow for the same natural light effect. This design would still provide a modern contrast to the historic museum while maintaining the functionality of the natural light source.
The change in shape from a pyramid to a prism would greatly affect the construction of the building. The structural supports and engineering of the building would need to be completely reconfigured to accommodate the new shape. Additionally, the aesthetic impact of the building would be altered, potentially changing its overall impact on visitors.
In terms of volume, the change in shape from a pyramid to a prism would affect the overall volume of the building. The pyramid shape typically has a smaller volume compared to a prism of the same base dimensions, due to the slanted sides of the pyramid. This could impact the interior space available for exhibitions or other activities within the museum.
I believe the Louvre Pyramid is a better shape for the building because of its iconic and striking design, as well as its practical benefits in allowing for natural light. To improve on the pyramid-shaped building, I would maybe consider adding more green space around the pyramid to create a more harmonious blend with the historic surroundings.
For the alternate prism-shaped building, I would improve it by incorporating innovative design elements to create a visually appealing structure that complements the surrounding architecture.
