This is why at Christmas this woman sells her hair to buy her husband something for his watch. Her husband had bought her a comb for Christmas but she had already cut her hair to buy her husband a gift. The overall meaning of this story is: love while living in poverty was explained in this story.

"This summary could be a lot more effective if it contained more important details. Even though in the original summary you get a part of the main idea, It's vague and overall doesn't tell you a lot about the story. The summary leaves you with a lot of questions that should have been answered, such as why did she have to cut her hair to get a present? And why are the gifts unusable? The last thing that truly bothered me about the text is how it said "The Gift of the Magi" was a sad story about a couple at Christmas time." I don't believe that sad was the best word choice and leaves it once again, very vague."
