Robert Hooke began describing cells in the 17th century. Other scientists, including Anton van Leeuwenhoek, Matthias Schleiden, Theodor Schwann, and Rudolf Virchow continued making discoveries about cells. These discoveries led to the creation of Cell Theory.
The Cell Theory has three parts:
-
All living things are made of one or more cells.
-
The cell is the basic unit of life.
-
All cells come from pre-existing cells.
