Wile E. Coyote used a spring to launch himself, thinking it would give him a lot of speed. However, he didn't account for how potential energy (energy stored in the spring) turns into kinetic energy (moving energy) when the spring expands.

When he pulled back the spring, he stored potential energy. But if the spring wasn't strong enough or if he didn't pull it back far enough, it wouldn't store enough energy to launch him at high speed. Instead of zooming off, he might have just bounced a little or not moved much at all. In short, if the spring didn't have enough potential energy, he wouldn’t get the kinetic energy he needed for his grand plan!
