After going through the review on the history of the United States, I gained a much clearer understanding of the White House, particularly its structure and historical significance. I learned that the White House has a total of six floors, which include the basement, the first and second floors, and the attic.
Interestingly, I discovered that it was President Theodore Roosevelt who officially named it the "White House" in the early 1900s, although the building was commonly referred to as the "President's House" or "Executive Mansion" for many years before that. This realization deepened my appreciation for the building, not just as an architectural marvel, but also as a symbol of the presidency and American history.
Knowing that the White House has been a residence for every U.S. president since John Adams helps me understand its role as both a home and a workplace. The fact that it has undergone renovations and expansions throughout history illustrates how our nation's story is intertwined with this iconic edifice.
