Unit 5 Activity 3 - Creating with Your Genre in Mind
1. Subject Matter Typically Shown in My Genre:
I have chosen Impressionism as my favorite genre of art. The typical subject matter includes:
- Landscapes (fields, gardens, rivers)
- Cityscapes (street scenes, parks, urban life)
- Natural scenes (sunsets, woodland areas, flowers)
- Everyday life (people engaged in leisure activities, markets)
2. Colors Normally Used:
Impressionist works often feature a bright and vibrant color palette, including:
- Soft pastels (light pinks, blues, yellows)
- Earthy tones (greens, browns)
- Bright, pure colors (pure reds, yellows, blues)
- Contrasting colors used side by side to produce vibrancy
3. Background Setting for Artwork:
For my artwork, I choose to depict a serene garden scene with blooming flowers and a gentle path winding through it. This setting captures the essence of nature and tranquility, characteristic of Impressionism.
4. Medium to Work With:
I will use acrylic paints on canvas as my medium. Acrylics allow for rapid layering and blending of colors, which is suitable for the loose style of Impressionism.
5. Rough Sketches:
(Here, you would include sketches of your ideas. For example, you might draw:
- A rough outline of the garden scene, indicating where you want flowers, the path, and any figures or objects in the scene.
- Experiment with color placement and composition.)
6. Create Your Artwork:
(Once you have finalized your design and completed your rough sketches, proceed to create your final piece based on your chosen subject matter, colors, background, and medium. This would involve:
- Painting your garden scene using the colors you've selected.
- Focusing on brush strokes to create the effect of light and movement, typical for Impressionist painting.)
Completing Your Assignment:
Once finished with your artwork and critique worksheet, upload them as instructed. Good luck, and enjoy the creative process!
