Understanding our Dreams

L. Hernandez

Something that all people—and even some animals—have in common is dreaming while we sleep. No one knows for certain why we dream, but there are many theories.

Many people believe that dreams are the result of the brain processing the thoughts and worries of our daily lives. They believe that dreams help us solve problems and process emotions. Sometimes when we go to sleep thinking about a particular issue or concern, we wake up feeling better about it. We might even come up with a solution in our sleep.

Others feel that dreaming is important for developing our creative energy. They believe that as soon as we wake up each morning, we should record what we remember of our dreams. Later, when we look back at what we have written, we will be able to see new ideas that can inspire us in a creative way.

Researchers are trying to learn more about dreams and the ways they can benefit our development. Perhaps someday we will have a better understanding of them.
