Ooops!
World War II didn't destroy any U.S. property except military goods. Although about 400,000 military personnel died in WW II, that was a very small percentage of our total population.
When our troops came home after being gone for several years, they reunited with their wives, resulting in a population increase. See the chart on the right side of this page:
