To find the weight of the gold in a 22 karat gold object, multiply the object's weight by 0.917. To find the weight of the gold in an 18 karat gold object, multiply the object's weight by 0.583. A 22 karat gold statue and a 14 karat gold statue both weigh 73.5 ounces. Which one contains more gold? How much more gold does it contain?

---confusing because problem does not give what to multiply by 14 karats. Please help. THANK YOU!

pure gold is 24K, so
22K gold is 22/24 = .917
18K gold is 18/24 = .750
14K gold is 14/24 = .583

The problem clearly has a typo when it mentions 18K gold.

A 22K statue the same weight as a 14K statue contains more gold. The difference is

(22-14)/24 * 73.5
or, given all the numbers presented above,
73.5(.917-.583)
