Tickets to King Middle School play cost $1 for King students and $3 for everyone else. Rose, a student at King Middle School, went to the play with friends from another school. the group paid a total of $13 for the tickets. How many friends went to see the play with Rose?
Answer must include a Let Statement, an equation, a proper solution (using Properties of Equality).
Would this answer be correct ?
Let X=friends
3a + 1 = 13
3a = 13-1
3a = 12
12/3 = 4
4 friends went to see the play with Rose

I know, but wanted to be sure about the let statement, equation parts they were asking for. Thanks.
Your "let" statement should be a complete English sentence with proper grammar
e.g.
let the number of friends that went with her be x
3x + 1 = 13
3x = 12
x = 4
So , four friends went with her.
e.g.
let the number of friends that went with her be x
3x + 1 = 13
3x = 12
x = 4
So , four friends went with her.
Ok.. Can u check these for me too please?
Rename each repeating decimal as a fraction in lowest terms. Using let statement, an equation, a proper solution (using properties of equality)
1) 0.87 (repeating nos are 87) So..
Let X = 0.87
100X = 87.87
- X = 0.87
____________
99X/99 = 87/99
X= 29/33
2) 0.5406 (repeating nos are 06) So...
Let X = 5406
10,000X = 5406.5406
- X = 0.5406
________________________
9999X/9999 = 5406/9999
5406/9999 = 1802/3333
X= 1802/3333
3) 0.048 (repeating no is 8). So...
Let X = 0.048
1000X = 48.8
-100X= 4.8
_______________________
900X/900 = 44/900
X=11/225
4) 3.274 (repeating nos are 74)
I really don't get this one

#2 is not correct, you should have checked your answer with a calculator
Here is the way I would do that one
let x = .54060606...
times 100, since 2 digits repeat
100x = 54.060606
subtract
99x = 53.52 , make sure you line up the decimals in the subtraction to see how I got that
x = 53.52/99 = 5352/9900
now reduce ...
= 446/825
on calculator: 446/825 = .54060606...
#4.
3.274 , just work on the decimal part
let x = .274747474..
times 100 , (remember why ? )
100x = 27.47474...
99x = 27.2
x = 27.2/99 = 272/990 = 136/495
now don't forget about the original whole number in front
3.274 = 3 136/495 as a mixed number
or
1621/495 as an improper fraction
check: 136/495
