This summer, each student will be composing a short story in the style of "flash fiction".
Key Characteristics of Flash Fiction:
Under 1500 words
Includes a limited number of characters (1-3)
Contains only 1 main event/plot point
Starts in what would be considered the "middle" of a story
Has an ambiguous ending (cliffhanger, twist, etc.)
Concise language (words chosen with intention to lower word count)
Contains literary devices (such as metaphors, simile, alliteration etc.)
For this assignment, students will submit a prewrite that highlights the planning stage of the writing process. Prewrites should include proof of the student's brainstorm of story ideas.
