First, you agree that dress codes won't eliminate ALL violence in schools.
BUT -- dress codes that eliminate gang colors and symbols will make it impossible to identify students as members of this or that gang.
Psychologically, we all tend to react negatively to stimuli that offend us. Dress codes allow students to walk the halls and sit in class without having to see offensive colors and symbols. This in itself should cut down on gang-inspired violence. It would eliminate the casual hostile comments made in passing to members of opposing gangs.
This sentence is my main argument: Dress codes in schools help to promote discipline and prevent gangs from forming on campus.
A counterargument is: Dress codes are simply a Band-Aid on the issue of school violence.
How do I address that counterargument without weakening my own premise? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!
