This is a single replacement type reaction. Products are ZnSO4 and H2. Same type as Al and HCl.
how do you know that H2 is alone instead of SO4?
The half reactions are:
Zn ==> Zn++ + 2e
2H+ + 2e ==> H2
The SO4= is a spectator ion. It never enters into the reaction. Since the Zn metal becomes positively charged, by giving up its two outside electrons, then it will replace the positive ion in H2SO4 and not the negative ion (SO4^-2). I hope this helps.
