There is hope for the endangered mountain gorilla. According to a recent census, the number of gorillas in the forests of Rwanda, Uganda, and Congo has risen. The mountain gorilla had been losing its fight for survival for many years. Humans have cut down the forests it relies on; they have also killed gorillas either for their meat or because they feared the animals. As a result of this, just a few hundred mountain gorillas remain on the planet. Officials normally conduct a gorilla census every five years, but the counts have been more erratic lately, making it difficult to know the exact gorilla population.
