The big bang theory explains that the universe originated from a singularity, a point of infinite density and temperature, around 13.8 billion years ago. The universe then underwent rapid expansion, known as inflation, and continues to expand to this day. Over time, matter and energy cooled and formed galaxies, stars, and planets. This theory is supported by evidence such as the observed redshift of distant galaxies, the cosmic microwave background radiation, and the abundance of light elements in the universe.
