Well, I will just assume C = infinite because 3*10^8 m/s is huge :)
So you see it when it happens for this purpose.
However it takes serious time for the sound to arrive.
1.5 *10^3 meters = 330 m/s * t
t = 1500/330 seconds

I use this the other way around. I see the flash and start counting. Every 5 seconds before I hear the thunder means the light is about another mile away
