The Thirteenth Amendment, adopted in 1865, abolished slavery in the United States. It stated that neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exist within the US.

The Fourteenth Amendment, adopted in 1868, granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the US, including former slaves. It also guaranteed equal protection under the law for all citizens.

The Fifteenth Amendment, adopted in 1870, prohibited the denial of the right to vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude. This gave African American men the right to vote.
