it's supposed to be
2C2H6 + 702 -> 4CO2 + 6H2O
The question is asking to calculate the overall energy change in the combustion of ethane (C2H6). This is what I have done:
The balanced equation:
C2H6 + 6 O2 --> 2 CO2 + 3 H2O
(6) 411 + 346 + (6) 494 --> (2) 799 + (3) 459
2466 + 346 + 2964 --> 1598 + 1377
= 5776 = 2975
5776 - 2975 = 2801
2801 kJ/mol of ethane / 30.08 g/mol = 93.11
The answer in the text book says 47 kJ/g.
What am I doing wrong?
