Here is some information for you:
There are 86,400 seconds in one day.
There are 3 feet in one yard = 36 inches in one yard.
3/86,400 = 1/28,800 days.
2/36 = 1/18 inches.
Is this what you wanted?
The problem really said convert 3 seconds into days. Then the next question was convert 2 inches into yards.
5 answers
3 s (1 hr/3600 s)(1 day/24 hr) = 3.472222* 10^-5 days or .000034722222 days
2 in (1 yd/36 in) = (1/18)yd = .0555555 yd
2 in (1 yd/36 in) = (1/18)yd = .0555555 yd
Damon, I got the same answers except I replied using fractions.
sure.
I always multiply by one.
Anything the same top and bottom is one for me
like
(12 inches/1 foot)
is one to me because the same top and bottom
so
if I have 6 feet and want inches
I do
6 ft (12 inches/1 ft)
the foot units cancel, and I am left with 6*12 inches or 72 inches
If you have a whole string of conversions, for example in some chemistry problems, that multiplying repeatedly so the unwanted units cancel is a handy accounting tool.

I believe this is what we needed. Thanks so much!
