The Social Security Act of 1935 was a highly effective program that established a system of retirement benefits, unemployment insurance, and aid for dependent children. Another effective program was the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which provided employment for young, unemployed men while also improving the nation's public lands and infrastructure. While some New Deal programs, like the Agricultural Adjustment Act, were criticized for benefitting large farmers at the expense of small ones, overall, the New Deal was successful in addressing the immediate needs of Americans and stabilizing the economy.
