The Long Way Away

A. Gautam

John Williams was at a loss of what to pack. He wanted to pack his entire life for the past ten years in a suitcase. Sure, he could pack the mango chutneys, peacock features, and beaded pillows. But what about his friend Veeru and how sweetly he played the flute? John could pack some peepal leaves but not the memories under its shade on those scorching summer afternoons.

They never asked me if I wanted to move here. They are not asking me if I want to stay, John thought about his parents who moved to Delhi with the British India Company from London. Delhi was all John knew and remembered. He was a baby when his father moved to Asia and then called for his family. Why don’t they understand that this is my home? John sighed as he stared out the window. Why can’t children have any say in where they want to live?

John Williams dreaded the long journey back. If only they had asked… If only they had given me time to say goodbye to every tree, every pebble, every note of flute that Veeru plays.

The statement that best paraphrases a concept presented in both "The Long Way Away" and "Stronger Together" is:

A. It is difficult and painful to endure so many changes when you are forced to move away from your home.

This reflects John's feelings of loss and the emotional turmoil associated with being uprooted from his home without agency.
