The ICC prosecutor receives a complaint from a SA NGO alleging that three members of a SA
political party were murdered by an opposing party in an isolated incident. May the ICC become
seized with matter
1 answer
The International Criminal Court (ICC) may become seized with the matter if the crimes alleged fall under the jurisdiction of the Court. The ICC has jurisdiction over war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and crimes of aggression. If the murders of the three political party members constitute any of these crimes and are not being effectively addressed by the national authorities, the ICC prosecutor may choose to open a preliminary examination to determine whether there is a basis to proceed with a formal investigation.
