During the home visit to the Friend family, I observed the young child interacting with the environment and other family members. The setting seemed safe overall, with baby gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, outlet covers, and cabinet locks in the kitchen. The parents also had a designated play area with soft padding on the floor and age-appropriate toys.
I also noticed that the parents were vigilant about supervising the child and were quick to respond if he approached any potential hazards. However, I did notice that there were some small choking hazards such as small toys left out on the floor that could easily be picked up and swallowed by the child.
At the daycare center, I observed the caregivers interacting with the infants in a nurturing and attentive manner. The center had strict policies in place regarding supervision and cleanliness, with regular hand washing and sanitizing of surfaces. There were also safety measures in place such as cabinet locks on all storage spaces and secure fencing around the outdoor play area.
Overall, both the Friend family and the daycare center had good safety measures in place. However, I would recommend that the Family undertake a thorough check for any small choking hazards and ensure that they are removed from the child's reach. Additionally, it would be beneficial for the daycare center to have a designated safe sleeping area for infants to reduce the risk of SIDS.
