distance = speed * time
d = 4.5 m/s * t
d is meters
t is seconds
3 hours * 60 min/h * 60 s/min
= 3 * 3600 = 10,800 seconds
so
d = 4.5 m/s * 10,800 s = 48,600 meters
which is 48.6 km
WOW! That is one fast fly.
The fastest insect in the world is the dragonfly with an average cruising speed of 4.5 metres per second. Write an equation with two variables describing the relationship between the time taken and the distance travelled. If a dragonfly flies for 3 hours how far can she travel?
