Vascular plants have specialized tissues, called xylem and phloem, that transport water and nutrients throughout the plant. This allows for more efficient transport and supports taller growth. Nonvascular plants, however, rely on osmosis and diffusion to move water and nutrients from cell to cell. This limits their ability to grow tall, as they cannot transport water as efficiently as vascular plants.
