The base of an isosceles triangle is one inch shorter than the equal sides, and the altitude of the triangle is two inches shorter than the equal sides. What is the length of the equal sides?

if the equal sides are s, then
((s-1)/2)^2 + (s-2)^2 = s^2
s = 17
sides are 17, base is 16, height is 15

s = 17
