And I see a side issue,in Europe and Britain, the festering issue of whose religion was to be followed had been a bloody and hateful issue for almost a hundred and fifty years, and had left schism enclaves all over Europe. But in America, immigrants from all these countries were present, and they were tired of religious fighting, and had to get along with one another. This issue tended to give the attitude to just shuff off the old political bonds to religion, and try to forge something new.
This was a side issue to the main issue, but it was in the hearts of many of the populace.
