Can I divide my work into summary, narrative structure, and main themes?
This is the very first part of the summary. I don't know if it is correct to use the present.
Could you please revise it?
1) At the beginning of the novel we get to know that Robinson was born in 1632 in the city of York, in the north of England.
2) Robinson's original name was (is) Robinson Kreutznaer. He was called Robinson after his mother's surname. When his family moved to England, his German surname was corrupted into Crusoe.
3) His father hopes Robinson will study law but Robinson's desire to go to sea is so strong that he ignores his father's advice.
4) His father is in the middle state, which he considers the best state since he belives that the poor have a difficult life whereas the rich are hated by the poor.

Since all of this is background for the actual story, I think all of the verbs should be in past tense.

3 and 4 = hoped, would, was, ignored, was, considered, believed, had, were
