Tell whether the lines for each pair of equations are parallel, perpendicular, or neither.

y = –1/4x + 10
–2x + 8y = 6
parallel
perpendicular
neither

I think its neither ? please help me understand...

Slope-intercept form equation of streight line:

y = m x + b

In this case :

– 2 x + 8 y = 6 Add 2 x to both sides

– 2 x + 8 y + 2 x = 6 + 2 x

8 y = 2 x + 6 Divide both sides by 8

y = ( 2 / 8 ) y + 6 / 8

y = ( 1 / 4 ) x + 2 / 3

Two lines are Perpendicular if they meet at a right angle (90°).

When you multiply their slopes, you get - 1

In this case :

( - 1 / 4 ) * ( - 1 ) = 1 / 4

perpendicular
I get where you got the -1/4 from but where did you get the -1 from? Sorry just confused...thanks
It was neither - we got it wrong...I don't get it completely - but thanks for trying...
( 1 / 4 ) x = ( - 1 ) * ( - 1 / 4 )
1st equation:
y = (-1/4)x + 10 -----> slope = -1/4

2nd equation:
-2x + 8y = 6
8y = 2x + 6
y = (2/8)x + 6/8
y = (1/4)x + 2/3 ----> slope = 1/4

so the lines are neither parallel , nor perpendicular.
Damn y’all dumb.
