Tara and Justin have been best friends since kindergarten. Together, they learned how to read and ride a bike. The pair was so close they could even finish each other’s sentences.

When Tara saw Justin sitting in the lunch room all alone, she knew something was wrong. She grabbed some food, picked up her tray, and headed toward him.
“What’s wrong, J?” Tara said, plopping down in the seat beside him.
“Nothing,” Justin mumbled as he pushed food around on his plate.
“Are you upset about the calculus final?” Tara asked.
“No. I passed. Which is more than I expected,” he replied. She rolled her eyes and sighed.
“Well, what is it? You can’t keep a secret from me and you know it,” Tara said as she nudged Justin.
“I’m kind of worried about asking Dionne to the prom. What if she says no?” he replied.
“That’s what’s bothering you?” Tara said.
“Yes,” Justin replied and turned to look at her. Tara put down her burger and looked him in the eyes. All the while, she was trying to hold in the laughter that was bubbling up in her stomach. A smile began to crack on her lips, and the laugh she had tried so hard to hold in came tumbling out.
“Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!” She giggled as she fell out of her seat. Tara’s laughter was so contagious that Justin couldn’t help cracking a smile.
As he helped her up off the floor, she said, “If she doesn’t agree to be your prom date, it’s her loss. After all, every girl should be lucky enough to have my best friend ask her out!”
“You know, you’re right,” Justin said. “I don’t know what I was thinking.” They threw their trash away and walked to class laughing.
