The Church in the olden days was all about increasing its power and control over everyone, yo! They used a bunch of sneaky methods to make that happen. One way was by making themselves super important in people's lives, like being in charge of education and stuff. They also had lots of political influence and would even crown kings and stuff, so they could boss everyone around.
