In this retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, the reader learns about the tragic love story between the musician Orpheus and his beloved wife Eurydice. When Eurydice dies after being bitten by a snake, Orpheus is overcome with grief and decides to descend into the Underworld to bring her back. His beautiful music moves Hades and Persephone, who allow him to take Eurydice back to the land of the living on one condition - he must not look back at her until they have reached the surface. However, Orpheus cannot resist and looks back, causing Eurydice to be taken from him forever.
