SUMMARISE:
The motivation behind is this study is the significance of determining the current legal frameworks, and ethical considerations around heritable human genome editing and their impact on future regulation and governance of this technology. The aim is to provide an inclusive view by delving into a contextualisation process. This entails an in-depth review of recent literature and current legal frameworks regarding heritable human genome editing. Moreover, the focus will be specifically on heritable human genome editing, which demands an in-depth analysis and not on other genome editing technologies. The research objectives entail investigating the current legal frameworks around heritable human genome editing in a global scale, looking into the ethical implications of this technology, evaluating the safety and efficacy implications, investigating public opinion and proposing recommendations for the regulation and governance of this technology. It is important to justify this study because heritable human genome editing is expeditiously advancing and it can potentially revolutionise healthcare. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the legal and ethical implications of this technology to ascertain that it is utilised in a responsible and ethical manner. This study provides insights into the current legal frameworks and ethical considerations around heritable human genome editing, which can impact the future regulation and governance of this technology. However, there are limitations to this study, firstly, the study will focus only heritable human genome editing and not any other type of genome editing technology. Secondly, the study will not delve into the economic implications of this technology. Lastly, no investigations will be made into the technical aspects of genome editing. The reason behind these exclusions is because of the limited scope of this study.
