The nursing profession is defined by its ethical commitment to enhance human and social welfare. My journey through nursing school has been both challenging and enriching, filled with moments of joy and tears. As a fourth-year Bachelor of Nursing student at the University of the Free State, I take pride in my role in caring for childbearing women. In this portfolio, I will reflect on my experiences and the MNH competencies related to various stages of maternal and newborn care.

A profession is defined as an occupation with ethical components, that is devoted to the promotion of human an social welfare.
My experience in nursing school has been the most challenging phase of growth and beautiful experiences in my life. I have cried and rejoice throughout this journey, however until today I can never be grateful enough on how proud I am to be one of the chosen to serve and promote care on childbearing women. I am Xikongomelo Shantelle Chauke, currently doing my 4th year in Bachelor of Nursing at the University of the Free state. This portfolio is based on the categories of MNH competencies namely, scope of knowledge, scope of practice, pre- pregnancy and antenatal care, intrapartum care, postpartum and postnatal care, newborn care, care related to loss or termination of pregnancy or leadership.
Therefore I will reflect on the competencies of MNH using Benner`s based on my experience on exposure to work.
