Reflecting on cultural studies, I have gained a profound appreciation for the complexity and diversity of cultural practices around the world. One specific cultural practice that has changed my perspective is the concept of community engagement in various cultures. For instance, I used to view community service predominantly through a Western lens, seeing it as an individualistic act of giving back. However, cultural studies have illuminated how, in many cultures, community engagement is a collective responsibility deeply embedded in social identity and tradition. This has encouraged me to approach volunteerism with a broader understanding, recognizing that the motivations and methods behind community service can differ significantly based on cultural context.

In applying what I’ve learned about the humanities, I plan to incorporate a more culturally inclusive perspective in my workplace interactions and future career. Understanding the diverse backgrounds of my colleagues will enhance communication and collaboration, enabling us to work together more effectively.
