Agroforestry is a sustainable land management system that integrates trees and shrubs into agricultural landscapes for environmental, economic, and social benefits. It has been recognized as a key strategy for promoting biodiversity conservation, soil fertility improvement, carbon sequestration, and climate change mitigation. In Rwanda, agroforestry practices have been widely promoted as a means to enhance agricultural productivity and resilience in the face of climate change.
However, despite the numerous benefits of agroforestry, the adoption of these practices in Huye District, particularly in Karama Sector, remains low. This study seeks to assess the rate of adoption of agroforestry practices in Karama Sector and identify the factors influencing farmers' decision to adopt or not adopt agroforestry.
By understanding the current level of adoption and the barriers to adoption, this study aims to provide valuable insights for policymakers, extension services, and development organizations to design and implement targeted interventions to promote agroforestry practices in the region. Ultimately, increasing the adoption of agroforestry practices in Karama Sector can contribute to improving agricultural productivity, enhancing environmental sustainability, and promoting community resilience in the face of climate change.
